Asana Lab Part 1: Chaturanga & Sun A with Karina September 6th 1:30pm

Asana Lab Part 2: The Warriors with Aya September 13th 1:30pm

Asana is a Sanskrit word meaning "posture" or "place." In yoga asanas are the physical positions we take in class. In this series of workshops, you'll take time to understand the anatomy involved in each pose, proper alignment for a safe and satisfying practice, and the history or folklore of the poses, as applicable. Asana lab is perfect for beginners looking to build a foundation for their yoga practice, as well as seasoned practitioners ready to dive deeply into the poses they flow through in a regular class. Assists, adjustments, and modifications will be offered, enabling every yogi to find the expression of the pose that's right for them.

In this workshop, we’ll learn the fundamentals of each pose in Sun Salutation A. We’ll break down everything from mountain pose and downward dog to chaturangas, hop-ups, and float-backs. We’ll explore key practices of daily living that will help maintain the mobility needed to move fluidly through this heated-building vinyasa sequence. We’ll build the foundational skills and strength needed for more advanced poses, and experience a meditation to activate a deeper awareness of your body (interoception), enhancing mind-body-soul alignment.

In this workshop we’ll learn the fundamentals of Warriors one, two, and three, understanding the head-to-toe anatomy involved in each pose. We’ll explore proper warm-up techniques for each warrior pose, including mobility work for hips, shoulders, and knees. We’ll discuss and practice proper alignment in the warriors, including hip and shoulder placement, learning safe and effective transitions in and out of the warriors focused on stability and key muscle engagement
